Lots of children telling us news about duckshooting so Jo and Nadine thought it would be a good idea to have a camo day. Once the children arrived I got busy painting somewhile others choose to do their own faces and some not allowed to be painted had photos taking for virtual camo later.

New Playground

The new playground build has started and Aaron has made huge progress over Easter. Unfortunately we lost many of our children's toys, thomas the tank engine, zoob, mobilio, duplo, paints, hammers, scissors, paper, two large boxes of puzzles, teachers books and even our old yellow vacuum cleaner and leaf blower when a shed got broken into, leaving us all feeling gutted when we should have been rejoicing. Now the long task of going through the inventory, to find all the missing items, finding replacements (and some where gifts that can never be replaced) starts and the expense of our now upgraded security.
Luckily we still have our beautiful new playground, some great weather and our joyful children to lift our spirits again.

Playground upgrade

The playground upgrade is getting into full swing so expect to see big changes when we get back from term break. We've also found a few interesting artifacts which we've used to strengthen our links with past children at St. Josephs. Meanwhile the children have been busy helping Aaron with the start of the build.

Bay Cities Symphonic band

With around 20 pieces the band played on despite the gusty breeze. The combination of band rotunda and playground made for a great day out for the families who went. So watch out in the CHB mail for your next opportunity to see them perform. I especially loved the three-four year old marching and dancing to song after song right up next to the band, obviously enjoying the music as much as I was.

Lego space shuttle
Today as a follow up from launching our own Helium balloons we watched this video of a large helium balloon carrying a Lego space shuttle and a camera up into near space.
We also drew a picture of
CO2
Drawing 6 circles for Carbon, and 8 for Oxygen and comparing it to Helium with only two.

We will have to make some balloon molecules as well.

We also looked at how air when it gets hotter spreads out linking this to the hot air balloon festival in the Wairarapa this weekend.

At Ryan's request we went on to look at mud pools and lava, and this lead to us rubbing our hands together for friction to make heat.

Following on from our Ukelele work I've been putting out a Ukelele and playing my own one. I usually get joined by several children one after the other and I take them through some easy ukelele chord songs. This afternoon I did some blues freestyling and was joined by Emily. She had her own song she wanted to sing, and when this ran out of steam I stepped in and it became a turn taking jam. Hugo M and Savannah Joined us as well, then Ryan stepped in and later Gareth.

They all had some great moves. Aware of the noise factor we moved to the other end of the kindergarten and I did try some quieter tunes about trees and how kind and gentle mums are, but this wasn't to be. I demonstrated how to work what was happening or said around us into tunes and rhyme. As we lost steam I suggested we could watch some rock videos on Youtube. The children agreed and Emily specified girls, so I found Blondie and the Bangles, Ryan enjoying the boys on the guitar with Blondie.
